About Typing Melody

Typing Melody is a free typing and letter game for ages 3 to 10. Every right key plays the next note of a tune on a tin whistle, so practice sounds like music.

It starts with letters for the youngest, and grows into real touch typing at 7 and up. It runs in any browser, on a laptop, a Chromebook or a tablet.

Who makes it

Typing Melody is made by Tin Whistle Games, a small game studio. We also make Sheep Tag Online. The voice your child hears is a real person, recorded for the game.

What we promise families

  1. No ads, ever. No account to make and no chat.
  2. Nothing your child types is sent anywhere. Progress stays in the browser. A family save code, if you make one, carries it to another device with no names.
  3. It stops. Sessions end kindly, with a clear place to stop, instead of pulling for one more round.
  4. We say what we don't know. The game is built on research about how young kids learn letters, and it has not been tested in a trial. The science, with every source.

For teachers

Typing Melody is free for classrooms, with no accounts to set up. Each child picks their stage when they start, and the game works on school Chromebooks. A real keyboard is best for learning to type by feel. For the youngest, our free printables pair well with it.
